Former Manowar guitarist and co-founder Ross “The Boss” Friedman has died at the age of 72, Metal Hangar 18 reported.

In February, it was reported that the musician had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - a severe neurodegenerative disease.

Ross Friedman is a key figure in heavy metal history. He co-founded Manowar in 1980 and participated in the recordings of the band’s first six albums, which are considered classics in the genre.

Before Manowar, he was part of proto-punk legends The Dictators, and in his later years was developing a successful solo career with his band Ross the Boss.
