The famous painting by Zlatyu Boyadzhiev "Two Weddings" was sold at an auction in Sofia for a record 280,000 euros.
This is the highest price officially reached for a Bulgarian author in Bulgaria, as the preliminary estimate was only 35,000 euros.
The bidding lasted nearly 15 minutes with serious competition between the participants, which also led to a significant increase in the price. An 18% auction house fee is added to the 280,000 euros, which forms a total amount of over 330,000 euros.
It is not clear whether representatives of the Ministry of Culture, who by law can buy the painting with priority, participated in the auction.
The canvas measuring 130 by 165 cm was offered for sale by the heirs of Professor William James Orville-Thomas, a British professor who worked at Sofia University years ago.
