Journalist Ivaylo Danailov has died

Journalist and translator Ivaylo Danailov has died. This was announced in a post on "Facebook" by his partner Iveta Stratieva.

Ivaylo Danailov is a philologist and journalist with over 30 years of professional experience in Bulgarian and foreign media. He was born in Sofia in 1958.

He graduated in English Philology with a second major in Bulgarian Philology at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", where he obtained a master's degree. This is shown by a biographical note published on the website of the National Assembly.

His professional path began at the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, where from 1985 to 1991 he worked as a translator-reporter in the editorial office of “Information for Abroad“, and later as a political reporter in the editorial office of “Internal Information“. During the same period, he was a stringer for the Associated Press and UPI.

In the early 1990s, Danailov was an advisor and deputy head of the press center of the Council of Ministers. Between 1992 and 1996, he worked at the newspaper “168 Hours“ as an editor in the departments “Business“, “Politics“ and “International“. He then returned to BTA, where from 1997 to 2000 he was the editor-in-chief of the “Pressphoto“ editorial department.

His professional biography also includes work as the editor-in-chief of the “Domestic Information“ and “International Information“ departments in the “Nedelen Standart“ newspaper, as well as an editor in the “International News“ department of the “Trud“ newspaper. In his various roles, Ivaylo Danailov gained experience as a translator, reporter, political journalist, investigative reporter, editor and head of editorial teams.

Before starting his journalistic career, in 1984-1985 he worked as an assistant printer at the "Dimitar Blagoev" Printing Plant.

According to information from the "24 Chasa" newspaper, Danailov has been battling a serious illness for the past year or so.
