"The NPMG star team consisting of Maria Metodieva (11th grade), Mila Getova (11th grade) and Raya Pamukova (11th grade) achieved remarkable success at the most prestigious and challenging STEM competition in the world, the Conrad Challenge - an annual global innovation competition and entrepreneurship, in which students between the ages of 13 and 18 develop solutions to pressing global challenges in complex and critical areas such as space and aviation, cyber and security, energy and environment, health and nutrition.
Raya, Mila and Maria competed in the Energy and Environment category against very tough competition from teams from the USA, China, Thailand and Bangladesh and brilliantly presented their complex invention FIXON - a fire prevention drone, impressing the judges and winning the distinction prize in the final phase of the competition - the so-called "Power Pitch Award".
NASA's Space Center Houston award is presented for the best presentation of innovation and is held live in front of all participants and a panel of top-level judges. Our team received the award personally from Nancy Conrad, a leading leader in STEM education, chair and founder of the forum and wife of its patron - the late astronaut Charles "Pete" Konrad, who during the mission "Apollo 12" becomes the third man to set foot on the moon.
The NPMG team is not only the only Bulgarian team qualified to participate in the competition, but also the only European team!
We share moments of the fascinating atmosphere of the forum, congratulate the students for their great success and thank Svetlana Lazarova, a physics teacher at NPMG, who accompanied the team to distant Houston, our sponsor Monbat and the NPMG School Board "Acad. Lyubomir Chakalov" who made this participation possible!", proudly wrote from the National Nature and Mathematics High School "Acad. Lubomir Chakalov" in Sofia.
