One of the rarest and most exotic snakes in Bulgaria was discovered! The pearl among reptiles in our country - the black viper - was found after two years of persistent searching by the reptile expert Vladimir Gochev, writes plovdiv24.bg.

Finally, after five actual "crusades" around Stara Planina for two years, the much-desired black viper came before his eyes at about 1,600 m above sea level. The reptilian is a rare genetic modification (melanistic form) of the common viper.
"In terms of toxicity, it is the same, but there is a theory that due to its black color, it collects more solar energy in a shorter time, which makes it more active and aggressive. I was convinced of the aggressiveness personally during our meeting," Vladimir reveals and adds that this uniquely beautiful creature is the "black pearl" for him. of the Bulgarian herpetofauna.
"My persistence paid off after all. Discovering it with a search, and not a random meeting with tourists who have no idea what they are seeing, is like a jackpot from the lottery", Vlado is happy, who only a few days ago made another tour - in South-West Bulgaria, and met other extremely rare snakes in our country - Striped smoky, Slender-headed smoky, Leopard smoky, Worm snake, Green-tailed viper, Concave-headed smoky, Gray water snake.
