September 7: We celebrate the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

Celebrated for the first time in 2020

September 7 – International Clean Air Day for Blue Skies. It is celebrated for the first time in 2020

It is no secret that the problem of environmental pollution has long been included in the number of global problems of our time. Human activity and progress, unfortunately, have always had a drawback, expressed in a violation of the ecological balance. In addition to the depletion of natural resources, human activity was accompanied by pollution of various spheres of the environment: water, air, soil. After all, pollution is considered by many modern ecologists to be one of the factors that have a serious impact on the planet's climate change.

The commemorative date of September 7, established by Resolution (A / RES / 74/212) of the UN General Assembly of December 19, 2019, aims to draw the attention of all countries of the world to the problem of air pollution. Medical scientists confirm that up to a third of the causes of human death from stroke, chronic respiratory diseases, lung cancer and even cardiovascular diseases are caused by the polluted state of the atmosphere.

Emissions into the atmosphere of solid particles and gases in the process of human activity become not only global changes in the climate sphere, but also directly have a negative impact on human health.

The main appeal of the United Nations is aimed at drawing the attention of all countries of the world to this problem, considering the issue of reducing harmful emissions of enterprises and transport in the atmosphere in order to improve the health of the air on the planet and improve the health of itself humanity.

Only an integrated approach and joining the efforts of the governments of all countries can give effective results in the struggle to improve the earth's atmosphere.

Air is one of those sources of life, without which this life disappears immediately, and the deterioration of climatic conditions also quickly affects health negatively. Economists are also not standing aside, calculating the inevitable increase in the upcoming costs of health care and treatment of people whose health will be undermined due to the poor state of the atmosphere, the harmful effects of air pollution on the tourism industry, etc.

The call for states and big business to invest in environmental technologies is accompanied by the development of new types of fuels, as well as technologies to reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere in all spheres of human activity. Solving these problems directly contributes to the successful implementation of the Program for Sustainable Development.

The main reasons for the high levels of fine dust particles in our country are the emissions from domestic heating during the winter season (massive use of coal, briquettes and wood, as well as old and inefficient combustion devices) and road transport (outdated and poorly maintained road vehicles) park). In recent years, a number of actions have been taken to improve air quality – changes in the legislation, adoption of the “National Program for Improving Ambient Air Quality 2018 – 2024 year“, adopted by decision of the Council of Ministers of June 7, 2019, implementation at the municipal level of specific measures to reduce the levels of fine dust particles and others.

In implementation of the National Program, quality requirements were introduced for coal and briquettes used for domestic heating – an Ordinance was adopted on the requirements for the quality of solid fuels used for domestic heating, the conditions, order and manner of their control.
