„My son is the moral murderer of Ivaylo Kalushev“ - the accusations of a mother against her own child shocked everyone who watched the interview that Sofia Andreeva gave to the program „Agenda“ of Mirolyuba Benatova and Genka Shikerova.
Andreeva, who, in her own words, is a follower of Kalushev in his capacity as a Buddhist lama, confirmed in the program that as early as 2022, her son complained to her, and subsequently to the authorities, that the man who was found dead on February 8 at the foot of Mount Okolchitsa had abused him.
The two lived together in Mexico, where the group around Kalushev developed their activities - an activity that Andreeva herself financed with her husband's money, not excluding the fact that it was even over 1 million leva.
The rift between mother and son
However, Andreeva does not believe her son - she claims that he was envious and jealous of other boys who became part of Kalushev's entourage. She even accused him of being the “moral murderer“ of the six people found dead in recent weeks. Andreeva twice, willingly or unwillingly, announced her son's name - Valery.
Although the rift between mother and son is truly striking, they both agree on one thing - the signals that the young man was sending reached Ivaylo Kalushev. This was confirmed by Valery himself in an interview with Maria Cheresheva from BIRD, which was published today. In it, the 31-year-old man says that back in 2022 he filed a report against Kalushev's activities. To date, he has testified a total of four times, the last two being in connection with the criminal cases in February of this year. "I spoke to two agents who introduced themselves as being from the GDBOP," Valeri says of his first testimony in 2022. He claims that he told them about his sexual relationship with Ivaylo Kalushev, which he had maintained before he came of age.
Many signals, but what did the institutions do?
Similar signals were also given by Borislav Sarafov in his first comment on the subject, immediately after three bodies were found in front of the hut in Petrokhan. "The activities of this non-governmental organization can in no way be called God-pleasing", said Sarafov, who continues to serve as prosecutor general. He later confirmed that he was talking about the "sect" and “pedophilia“.
The information about the signals apparently reached Kalushev – this was confirmed by both Valeri and his mother Sofia Andreeva. Probably not only him. In her interview for “Agenda“ Sofia Andreeva claims that the grandparents of another boy - Leon - who was also in Kalushev's entourage, turned to the Child Protection Agency after they became familiar with Valeri's signals. “It all starts with his fabrications. Because of them, Leon's grandfather, who is an old cop, is making a drama because other cops have told him that there is a signal against Kalushev. And the snowball is rolling“, claims Andreeva.
The stories and statements of Sofia Andreeva and her son Valeri lead to the same question - what actions have the institutions taken in connection with Valeri's signals. The claims of both that these signals reached Kalushev also arouse serious suspicions. The director of the “Criminal Police“ Angel Papalezov provided information that the National Agency for Control of Protected Areas cooperated with the Ministry of Interior. But to what extent? And could this cooperation have hindered the investigations against them despite the statements of Borislav Sarafov and acting chairman of the National Agency for the Protection of Protected Areas Denyo Denev that the signals were not from yesterday?
A number of open questions
“The investigators owe answers about the activities of this organization. First, what happened, how did these people die and why. And could this have been prevented“, summarizes Mirolyuba Benatova to the DV. "The institutions owe an answer for what they did from 2022 to 2026," commented Atanas Chobanov from BIRD. "I am struck by the fact that for three years no pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, as far as we understand. The witness Valeri says that he was neither given a case number nor was he in an office where he could be questioned under the Criminal Procedure Code. We have confirmed the identity of the persons who questioned him. They do not deny that this happened, although they refer to official secrecy," he told the Bulgarian News Agency.
