The 2014 World Cup winner with Germany, Jerome Boateng, has officially announced the end of his football career. “Football has given me a lot, now it's time to move on. Not because I have to, but because I'm ready”, the 37-year-old defender said in an Instagram video.

Boateng began his professional career in 2007 at Hertha Berlin, and achieved his greatest successes with Bayern Munich, where he won two Champions Leagues, nine Bundesliga titles and five German Cups. He then played for Olympique Lyonnais, Salernitana and the Austrian side Linzer ASK, where he finished the season with 14 appearances.

For Germany, Boateng made 76 appearances between 2009 and 2018 and was part of the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. He is also the European Under-21 champion since 2009.
