Alexander Ovechkin scored the 898th goal of his career

Alexander Ovechkin scored the 898th goal of his career, and Dylan Strom recorded two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory of the Washington Capitals against the Minnesota Wild in a game of the regular season of the National Hockey League of the United States and Canada (NHL), BTA reported.

Ovechkin, who passed to Strom for the first goal of the center, scored his first goal of the season for 3-1 with 79 seconds left in the final period. Alexei Protas and Tom Wilson also scored for the Caps, and the team shot the Wild 45-14. Logan Thompson made 13 saves in Washington's fourth straight win.

Philip Gustavsson made 40 saves and Marcus Jonasson scored the only goal for the Wild, who lost for the third time in their first five games of the season.

Nick Schmaltz recorded his second career hat trick and added an assist as the Utah Mammoths beat the San Jose Sharks 6-3 in Salt Lake City. The forward scored twice in the first period and added a third goal in the final period for a 4-2 win.

Clayton Keller finished with a goal and three assists, while Liam O'Brien and Michael Carconi scored the other goals for the Mammoths. Karel Weimelka made 18 saves and allowed goals against MacLean Celebrini, Jeff Skinner and Tyler Toffoli. The Sharks lost their fourth game of the season.

Dylan Larkin scored with 1:24 left in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings won 2-1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Axel Sandin-Pelika scored his NHL debut for the home team in the opener and Larkin had the assist, giving Detroit its fifth game with at least one point this fall.

John Gibson stopped 31 shots for Detroit and allowed only one goal against J.J. Moser, who tied the game with 3:43 left in regulation. Andrey Vasilevskiy stopped 29 shots for the Lightning.

Brock Bowser scored the only goal in a shootout and the Vancouver Canucks won 3-2 against the Chicago Blackhawks, extending the Canucks' series against the Americans to 11 straight games. Jake DeBrusk and Max Sasson scored for the Canucks, while Ryan Donato and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for the Blackhawks.
