Manchester City won over Everton 2:0 at home in the eighth round of the Premier League. Thus, Pep Guardiola's team came out at least temporarily in first place, before the Arsenal match later in the day. The two goals for the "citizens" after the break were scored by Norwegian international Erling Haaland. He scored within five minutes of each other after assists by Nico O'Reilly and Savinho, BTA reported.

Leeds, for whom Bulgarian international Iliya Gruev remained an unused substitute, lost their away game at Burnley 0:2. Ugochukwu opened the scoring for the hosts in the 180th minute, Lum Chawna made it 2-0 midway through the second half. Burnley have moved out of the relegation zone, sitting 17th with 7 points, with Leeds two places up with a point.

Bournemouth beat Crystal Palace 3-2 in the highest-scoring game of the round so far. The visitors took the lead with two goals from Eli Krupi before the break. The London team equalised with two goals from French international Jean-Philippe Mateta. Ryan Christie gave Bournemouth another lead a minute before the end of normal time, but Mateta scored a hat-trick from the penalty spot deep into added time. Bournemouth, who were at the top of the table at one point, remained fourth, while Crystal Palace are in eighth place.

Brighton beat Newcastle 2-1. Danny Welbeck scored both goals for the "Seagulls", Nick Voltemade scored again for the "Magpies", but that was enough for his team.

Sunderland defeated Wolverhampton 2-0. Nordi Mukiele opened the scoring for the hosts, and in added time Ladislav Krejci from the "Wolves" scored an own goal to make the final 2-0. Sunderland are in seventh position, Wolverhampton are last.
