Former Real Madrid and Feyenoord winger Royston Drenthe has been admitted to hospital after suffering a stroke, his former teammates said, quoted by Reuters.

"He is receiving good care and is in good hands", his friends wrote. "Royston's family wants peace and privacy during this difficult period, providing him with the necessary support," his friends added to the agency.

The 38-year-old Drenthe retired from football in 2023, having also played in England for Everton, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, BTA recalls.
