Florentino Perez has decided to step down from the presidency of Real Madrid in 2026, claims journalist Pepe Alvarez on social networks, quoted by the TASS agency, BTA reported.
In January this year, Perez was re-elected as president of the Spanish football club, and his term expires in 2028.
According to the source, he would like to see an organized transfer of power, regardless of whether the club members support the referendum.
78-year-old Florentino Perez first became president of Real Madrid in 2000, holding the position for six years. In 2009, he was re-elected unopposed for a new term.
During his tenure, the Spanish team won the Champions League seven times, reached seven Spanish league titles, won seven Spanish Super Cups, six UEFA Super Cups, five FIFA Club World Cup trophies, three Copa del Rey trophies in Spain and two Intercontinental Cups.
