The Roma team defeated the Como team with the minimum 1:0 in a match from the 15th round of the Italian Serie “A”, sportal.bg reported.
Thanks to the success, the “wolves” broke away from Juventus in fourth place with five points, but also kept the gap from the vice-champion and leader Inter at three points, which kept the dreams of the “Scudetto” alive.
Cesc Fabregas's graduates, in turn, missed the chance to climb to the places that give the right to participate in the European club tournaments. However, they are only a point behind sixth-placed Bologna and are not even too far from the top 4.
The opponents produced a meager first half and goal chances were rare. It was not until the final minutes that the “Olimpico” fans dreamed of raising their hands in victory. In the 41st minute, Ferguson mastered a cross into the penalty area and shot into the right corner, where a defender found himself to clear for a corner.
This was generally one of many corner kicks in the first half, the number of which reached six in front of both goals.
Otherwise, the guests from Como also had a chance to retire at the break with an advantage. Then Martin Baturina navigated the chaos most accurately and shot, with the “wolves” goalkeeper Mile Svilar once again proving his class this season and reflecting. That was the last thing that happened in the half, as immediately after the home defenders cleared the ball from the penalty area, referee Ermanno Feliciani gave his final signal.
Immediately after the restart, the home team finally broke through the opponent's goal. After a shot shook the post, the leather ball ended up at the feet of Cristante, who did not hesitate and fired a brutal shot that could have torn the net behind goalkeeper Jean Bute.
Four minutes later, Gian Piero Gasperini was stunned, as Nico Pas could have put the Romans in a position of falling behind, but only won a corner.
So after an hour of playing time in the “Eternal City” the home fans finally erupted. After a long play in front of the Como penalty area, the guests collapsed. Wesley found the pass, who broke through from the right into the penalty area and shot to subdue Bute.
In the 64th minute, Ferguson could have killed the intrigue after completing a multi-move combination with a diagonal shot, but the ball did not find the goal.
In the 74th minute, Baturina's acrobatic performance did not pose a difficulty for Svilar, but it still became an additional decoration of the match.
In the 84th minute, the guests wasted a huge chance to steal a point from “Olimpico”. Substitute Stefan Posh entered the penalty area, but was too slow to pull the trigger, and instead of checking Svilar, he ran into Manu Kone's sword, who softened the ball and rolled it smoothly into the goalkeeper's gloves.
Thus, things were heading towards a certain victory for the Romans with a minimal score, and even in the 93rd minute, Bailey missed another chance for the hosts to reach a more convincing result with a shot from the penalty spot.
Shortly after, however, passions heated up, and a fight broke out between the players, and the interesting thing was that Ermanno Feliciani showed only one yellow card - for Jacobo Ramon from Como. After the game resumed, goalkeeper Bute poured the ball into the "wolves" half, but no one was able to intercept it and it ended in a shot on goal. Svilar, in turn, executed the new static position, and referee Feliciani gave the final signal and Roma won for the fifth time since the start of the campaign with a score of 1:0.
Interestingly, this was the ninth time in total that the "wolves" have led and won their Serie A match. In addition, they ended a bad streak of two consecutive losses, which were also 0:1 and they found them in the matches against Cagliari and Napoli.
Fabergas and company lost their second consecutive match. In the last round, they were defeated 0:4 by the leader Inter.
In the next round, Roma will have a new very tough challenge and will visit Juventus (20.12).
Como will have a visit to Lecce (27.12).
