The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold the continental tournament for national teams every four years, instead of the current two, Reuters reported after the organization's executive committee in Morocco.
The tournament, which according to unconfirmed reports brings in nearly 80% of CAF's revenue, has been held every two years since its first edition in 1957.
The 35th Africa Cup of Nations tournament will begin on Sunday, and in the first match, hosts Morocco will face Comoros. There will be three matches from Monday.
