West Ham recorded an important victory in their battle for survival

Londoners are in 18th place in the provisional Premier League standings

West Ham defeated Sunderland 3-1 at home in the first match of the 23rd round in the Premier League, BTA reported.

Criscencio Somerville put the Londoners ahead in the 14th minute after a pass from Jarrod Bowen, who was accurate after a penalty after nearly half an hour of play. Mateusz Fernandes increased the score to 3-0 two minutes before the end of the first half.

Brian Broby scored the honorary goal in favor of the "black cats" in the 66th minute of the match. West Ham has 20 points in 18th place in the standings so far. Sunderland remain in ninth place with 33 points.

Later today, Manchester City host Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Liverpool travel to Bournemouth. Sunday is the derby between leaders Arsenal and Manchester United.
