Rayo Vallecano recorded its first victory over Atletico in 13 years, after winning decisively 3:0 in a match from the 24th round of La Liga. The match was played at the “Municipal de Butarque“ in Leganes, and the hosts struck their decisive blow at the end of the first half, reports BTA.
After an equal opening 40 minutes, Rayo scored two quick goals. Fran Perez opened the scoring after an excellent individual breakthrough by Romanian Andrei Raciu on the right flank. Shortly before the break, Oscar Valentin doubled from close range after a similar attack.
In the second half, the visiting coach Diego Simeone made changes, bringing on Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman, but the "mattresses" were unable to change the course of the match.
A quarter of an hour before the end, Nobel Mendy made the final 3:0.
With the success, Rayo left the relegation zone and climbed to 16th place with 23 points, while Atletico remained fourth with 45.
