Brest defeated Olympique Marseille 2:0 in the opening match of the 23rd round of the French Ligue 1. Thus, the hosts soured the debut of the new Marseille coach Habib Bey, who debuted on the bench on Friday evening, BTA reported.

Both goals for Brest's success were scored by Ludovic Ajork. Thus, Olympique Marseille remains with 40 points and does not come close to the top teams in the standings, and can only hope that Lille and Rennes lose points over the weekend.

Brest is in 11th place with 30 points, having confirmed its good games against strong teams and having won 16 points against the teams from the first half of the standings.

Ajork opened the scoring for Brest in the tenth minute, hitting the ball at the far post. He scored a second goal after a poorly cleared free kick and a cross from Hugo Magnietti, in which he beat international Benjamin Pavard.

In the second half, the Marseille team went from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 with the entry of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but this did not change the course of the match, as the guests only scored with a long shot by Timber and a header by Amin Gouri, which went wide of the goal. In the 82nd minute, Olympique also missed a penalty through Mason Greenwood at a time when it was already too late to turn the game around.
