Manchester City defeated Newcastle United 2:1 in a home match from the 27th round of the English Premier League. Nico O'Reilly became the hero for the "citizens", who scored both goals for City. He opened the score for the hosts in the 14th minute with a precise shot into the left corner after an assist from Egyptian international Omar Marmush, BTA reported.

Newcastle reacted very quickly, as in the 22nd minute Lewis Hall's shot deflected and fooled City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma - 1:1. Five minutes later, Erling Haaland crossed and O'Reilly headed in from close range to make it 2-1 for Pep Guardiola's side. The Englishman had a great game and missed out on a hat-trick before the end of the first half, failing to score from close range.

Dan Byrne from the visitors scored late in the first half, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In added time, Donnarumma saved all three points for City with a superb save from Harvey Barnes.

Manchester City are now just two points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings, hosting the direct clash between the two teams.
