Ivan Ivanov achieved the greatest success of his career so far, after winning the title of the M25 category tournament on red courts in Tarragona. The barely 17-year-old Bulgarian showed an impressive game and in the final he convincingly prevailed over the Spaniard Alex Marti Pujolras with 6:3, 6:2.
The match was held in difficult conditions due to the strong wind, which caused problems for both players. The first set was equal, with each player exchanging one break at the beginning. At 4:3, Ivanov made a decisive break and then closed the set without hesitation.
In the second set, the Bulgarian imposed complete superiority and led with a convincing 5:0. Although he missed his first match point and allowed his opponent to reduce the deficit to 5:2, he remained calm and finished the match at his next opportunity, defeating an opponent who is higher in the world rankings.
The title in Tarragona is the first of this rank for Ivanov and will bring him serious progress in the ATP rankings. With his performance, the young Bulgarian showed that he has the potential for even greater success on the professional stage.
