Al Qadsia striker Matteo Retegi will miss the rest of the season due to a fractured leg, the Saudi Pro League club announced, dealing a serious blow to their bid to qualify for next season's elite Asian Champions League tournament, BTA reported.

The Italian international, who has scored 11 goals in 28 matches, was injured after scoring and assisting in a 2-2 draw with Al Shabab on Tuesday.

„Medical examinations have confirmed that Matteo Retegi has suffered a fractured tibial muscle“, Al Qadsia posted on the X platform.

„He will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for the rest of the season“, the club added.

The 26-year-old Argentine-born Retegui has scored 16 goals in 28 Saudi Premier League appearances this season. He was part of the Italy national team that lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2026 World Cup play-off final last month.

Brendon Rodgers' Al Qadsia are fourth with 62 points from 29 games, four behind Al Ahly, who have a game in hand. The top three teams will qualify for next season's Champions League.
