Liverpool defeated Everton 2:1 in the first ever derby at the new stadium of the "caramels" "Hill Dickinson", BTA reported.

The match was a real derby and each of the two teams could have won until the end. The first minutes were for the "blues" from the city, who missed several opportunities. So in the middle of the first half, Illiman Ndiaye opened the score for the hosts, and the supporters in the stands literally went crazy with joy. This proved to be a hasty decision, as a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system showed that Jack O'Brien, who had passed to the Senegal international, was offside when goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's long pass was intercepted.

Everton then made a mistake in their clearance and Cody Gakpo found the unmarked Mohamed Salah, who shot past Pickford to make it 0-1.

In the second half, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall assisted Beto, who curled in the equaliser for the "caramels". In the 11th minute of added time, Virgil van Dijk headed in a 2-1 win for the "reds". Liverpool are fifth with 55 points, while Everton remain ninth with 47.

In the most contested match of the day so far, Aston Villa beat Sunderland 4-3. The first half ended 2-1 for the Birmingham team, with two goals scored by England international Ollie Watkins, and Chris Rigg temporarily equalized for the visiting team. Morgan Rodgers scored a third goal for Villa immediately after the start of the second half, but Sunderland equalized, thanks to goals from Tray Hume and Wilson Isidore within two minutes. Tammy Abraham secured Aston Villa's success in the third minute of added time. Aston Villa now have 58 points, the same as third-placed Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest were 0-1 behind Burnley, but eventually won convincingly 4-1. Zion Fleming scored for Burnley, Morgan Gibbs-White scored a hat-trick and Igor Jesus added another goal in the 98th minute to make it 4-1. Nottingham Forest remain in 16th place, but are now 5 points ahead of relegated Tottenham. Burnley are almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League with 20 points and are in penultimate place.
