Atletico Madrid has begun negotiations with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomez, with the deal gradually gaining momentum on the transfer market, BTA reports. Talks between the two clubs are still in the early stages, but according to reports from Spain and England, there is optimism that an agreement can be reached relatively quickly. The reason is clear - the situation of the English club, which is preparing for serious changes in its squad after a difficult season, facilitates a possible sale. The transfer fee is expected to be in the range of 45-50 million euros, which corresponds to the market interest in the player.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been among the most consistent players for the “wolves“ in recent seasons. He is a typical defensive midfielder with an aggressive style of play, strong in one-on-ones and high work rate, which makes him suitable for Diego Simeone's system. It is these qualities that make him a priority target for Madrid, who are looking for reinforcement in the middle of the field.
Gomez has a long-term contract with the English club until the summer of 2030, and his market value is estimated at around 35 million euros. Since arriving in England in 2023, he has recorded over 120 matches for the team, contributing with goals and assists, but mostly with his defensive stability and energy in the midfield.
