Max Verstappen announced to the Red Bull team that the next races will be important for his future in Formula 1, reports sportal.bg. The Dutchman's future has been the subject of speculation since the beginning of the season, although he has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028. In view of the decline in the performance of the “bulls“ over the past 12 months, many believe that Verstappen will leave Milton Keynes at the end of the current season - three years before the expiration of his contract.
Verstappen announced some time ago that he does not intend to leave the team with which he achieved all his successes in the sport, but… Now, however, he has told De Telegraaf that Red Bull's performance will be decisive for his future and he has not ruled out the possibility of parting ways with the team in advance.
“It is difficult to predict what will happen with the new rules next year. Then everything in the sport will be new again. Everyone can say they know who has the best qualifications, but no one can say anything for sure. The only team that is doing well at the moment is McLaren. The cars and engines next year will be different. If they maintain their advantage in working with the tyres, then that will be important and they will be fast next year as well“, said Verstappen.
“I always think about my future, I think about it. Even in the good years. On the other hand, I am calm about it at the moment. I have always told the team that I intend to stay. At the moment I am not thinking about leaving. "I want to see how the rest of the season, or at least part of it, develops. The team can make some nice and big steps forward. The next races will be very important for my future. I'm not even talking about next year, but in general. I think everyone in the team realizes that. Do you know what the problem is? If we could really choose our team based on performance alone, we would change it almost every year. But of course we can't," Verstappen also commented.
