The FC Krasnodar team achieved historic success after winning its first championship title in the Russian Premier League.
In the last, 30th round of the season, the “bulls” defeated Dynamo Moscow 3:0 at the “Ozon Arena” stadium in Krasnodar. The goals for the hosts were scored by John Cordoba in the 46th minute, Nikita Krivtsov in the 82nd and Eduard Spertsyan from a penalty in added time of the match. With this success, Krasnodar collected 67 points, one point ahead of Zenit St. Petersburg, which finished second despite its 3:0 victory over Akhmat Grozny. This ended Zenit's six-year dominance and ended a 16-year hegemony of teams from Moscow and St. Petersburg in the Russian championship.
The last champion outside those two cities was Rubin Kazan in 2009. The title is particularly significant for Krasnodar, a club founded in 2008, which for the first time in its history has climbed to the top of Russian football. This achievement is the result of many years of investment and efforts to develop the club, including the construction of a modern infrastructure and an academy for young talents. At the bottom of the standings, the teams of Paris Nizhny Novgorod, Akhmat Grozny, Orenburg and Fakel Voronezh were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
