Leganes and Espanyol achieved victories in the last, 38th round of the 2024/2025 season in the Spanish football La Liga, but emotions were on both sides for both clubs, BTA reported.
Leganes prevailed at home to Valladolid 3:0 and collected 40 points in 18th place in the standings, but both teams are relegated from the elite division. Valladolid finished in last place, 20th, with just 16 points.
Leganes' players were one point away from survival despite the success, as Alaves, Girona and Sevilla each have 41 points, but also a game less, and Espanyol won their last match.
Xavi Hernandez gave the hosts the lead in the 24th minute, Yan Diomande scored for 2:0 in the 36th, and Juan Cruz scored for 3:0 in the 40th minute.
Espanyol's team beat Las Palmas 2:0 at home and collected 42 points in 14th place in the standings, ensuring they remained in the elite. Las Palmas is 19th with 32 points and leaves La Liga towards the second division. Xavi Puado's penalty in the 65th minute and Pere Mila's in the 82nd brought the valuable victory for Espanyol.
