McLaren driver Lando Norris (Australia) triumphed in the Monaco Grand Prix, the eighth round of the Formula 1 season. The Briton, who started from pole position, won the extremely strategically important race with a time of 1:40:33.843 hours, reducing the lead of his teammate Oscar Piastre from 13 to 3 points in the drivers' standings. Norris collected 158 in second place, while Australian Piastre, who finished third, has 161 points to his credit.
Second place in Monaco was taken by the representative of the home team and last year's winner Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, 3.131 seconds behind, while Oscar Piastre remained 3.658 seconds behind the winner.
Defending champion Max Verstappen (Netherlands, Red Bull) came in fourth, 20.572 seconds behind. Verstappen remains third in the overall standings with 136 points. He led the field until the penultimate lap, but only because he had not yet made his mandatory second pit stop.
The top four drivers finished in the same order they started, with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain, Ferrari) finishing fifth, 51.387 seconds behind Norris.
The race featured two mandatory pit stops for the first time, but hopes for more action failed to materialize, with Lando Norris eventually overtaking all but four cars on his way to his first win in Monaco and his first of the season-opening race in Australia, despite being fastest in the sprint in Miami.
"It feels incredible," Lando Norris said, as quoted by the AP agency, adding: "This is something I've dreamed of since child".
"We lost the race yesterday", was Leclerc's verdict, referring to the importance of qualifying in Monaco.
The next, ninth round of the Formula 1 season is the Spanish Grand Prix on June 1.
