Sampdoria retained their place in Serie B after getting a 3-0 official victory over Salernitana for the second playoff for relegation, FOCUS reported.
The match between hosts Salernitana and Sampdoria was abandoned yesterday after home fans threw smoke bombs and seats onto the pitch. The match was abandoned due to the incidents, and the Disciplinary Committee ruled that Sampdoria would be awarded the victory.
The team won the play-offs 5–0 on aggregate and retained their place in the division, thus avoiding certain relegation. The Genoa club were initially relegated to Serie C for the first time in their 78-year history in May, only to be given a lifeline after Brescia were deducted points for financial irregularities, dropping them below Sampdoria in the final standings.
