Liverpool is in mourning and preparing an emotional farewell to Diogo Jota, reports DPA. The club and fans are in mourning after the 28-year-old Portuguese international and his brother Andre Silva died in a car crash in Spain in the early hours of July 3, BTA adds.

Liverpool players were supposed to gather at the club's base on Friday, but this was postponed.

It is believed that the club has arranged a charter flight to Portugal so that players wishing to say goodbye to Jota can arrive. In Portugal, there was a vigil before the brothers' funeral at the "Matris de Gondomar" church in Sao Cosme today.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was among a number of club officials who attended the service at the chapel, along with Manchester United's Portugal international Diogo Dalot. Nottingham Forest's Jota Silva, who was born in Gondomar, and Jota's former Wolves and Portugal team-mate Joao Moutinho were also in attendance. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Luiz Montenegro were in attendance, while members of the Portuguese parliament also paid tribute to the two brothers. At Liverpool's Anfield stadium, where a temporary shrine has been set up, thousands left flowers, T-shirts, scarves and cards.
