Erik ten Hag began his stay as Bayer Leverkusen coach with a 1:5 defeat to the youth team of Brazilian Flamengo under-21, BTA reported.
Laurent, Arthur (own goal), Mateus Gonçalves and Pedro Leao gave Flamengo a 4:0 lead in the first half. After the break, Gustavo added a fifth goal, and 17-year-old Montrel Culbreth scored the only goal for Leverkusen.
New signings Mark Flecken, Amine Adli and Victor Boniface started the match, with Jonas Hoffmann wearing the captain's armband.
Granit Xhaka, Ezequiel Palacios, Alejandro Grimaldo, Robert Andrich, Nathan Tella and Edmond Tapsoba all received playing time in the second half.
Leverkusen are holding their training camp in Rio de Janeiro until 24 July.
