Liam Cooper is no longer part of CSKA, Topsport reported. The capital's giants announced their separation from their captain after a weak start to the season.
The two parties have terminated their contractual relations by mutual consent. It is very likely that the "army" paid the salaries of the once glorious Leeds defender, who had a contract for another year. He held on to a two-season contract, which was his most important condition when moving to our country.
The former Scottish international joined the "army" in September 2024 and played 27 matches in which he scored one goal. However, his mistakes were too many, and a constant quantity. In the first two rounds of the new championship alone, Cooper fell while crossing for Botev Plovdiv's goal (1:1), and when Spartak Varna scored (1:1), he turned his back on the ball and comically collapsed on the grass.
Apparently, the leaders at CSKA have seen enough and decided to stop the agony with Cooper, who was also earning the highest salary in the team - 62,500 euros per month. His remuneration also led to attempts by the other players to wring the club's hands for more money.
