Newcastle United have completed a club record deal for Stuttgart striker Nick Voltemade, the Premier League club said in a statement, BTA reports. The club did not disclose details, but media reports suggest Voltemade has signed a contract until June 2031, with Newcastle paying a transfer fee of between £69m and £78m.
The fee beats Newcastle’s previous record of £63m, which the club paid for striker Alexander Isak three years ago.
"It’s a big step in my life to leave Germany, but everyone has welcomed me so well and I feel like part of the family now. "I have a really good feeling from talking to the head coach that this is the right place for me to find my best form," said Voltemade.
The 23-year-old Germany international started his career at Werder Bremen before moving to Stuttgart last summer and quickly established himself as one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga.
With Voltemade, Stuttgart won the German Cup last season. Voltemade's arrival at Newcastle potentially opens the door for Isak to leave. Isak turned down a move to Newcastle in a bid to join Liverpool, with the Premier League champions having already had a £110m bid for the Swedish striker rejected.
