As we have already informed you, with the recent changes to the Road Traffic Act, toll system cameras can now be used to control average speed in certain road sections. This has raised the question of whether the popular navigation app Waze will support this functionality in Bulgaria.
Waze has the technical ability to measure and display average speed in real time, but this option must be activated for each individual region. At the moment, although toll cameras have already been introduced into the application, the average speed measurement function is not yet active for our country.
According to information from the Waze editors for Bulgaria, once the sections for average speed control are officially announced, they will be introduced in stages in the application. One possibility is to measure not only between stationary cameras, but also between a stationary and a mobile camera.
It is planned that the speed in these areas will be visualized by a vertical bar on the left side of the application screen, similar to the way traffic jams are displayed.
