And during the Cold War, where the division was very clear between East and West, within the West, and in the East there were such processes, but we are interested in the West, within this West there were also different points of view. The position of French President Charles de Gaulle was different. It led to the fact that France separated itself for a while from the NATO military organization. Such a division has always existed. Since, no matter how we look at them, the geopolitical positions of Western Europe and the US overlap a lot, but not completely. And the fact that Europe, after World War II finally buried its role as a leader of the world, a uniting Western Europe would have been unthinkable before that. Because it represents different centers of the world. Then it began to unite and was forced to hide under the nuclear umbrella of the USA.
This was said in the FACT studio to Lili Marinkova by Prof. Iskra Baeva - a lecturer in world history at the Sofia University "St. St. Kliment Ohridski". Here is more from her comment:
This does not mean that Europe has completely given up its positions. And this was evident in the second period of the Cold War in such different positions. And now we are observing the same. The differences are within the European Union. Because Orban is part of the European Union, Fico is part of the EU, Andrej Babis is also part of the European Union. I would not say that they are 100% together with Trump, but I would not say that they are extremely different from the rest of Europe. Both Europe and the world are returning to polycentricity. To different centers with different points of view. What seemed very clearly demarcated in the years of the Cold War - East and West - has disappeared. Now it turned out that the victorious West, because it won the Cold War, turned out to have different points of view on different issues. And they have now manifested themselves under this unique American president. Truly unique.
The reaction of Europe, or rather the EU leadership on the topic of "Greenland" was quite strange. Because sending 13, 15, two, three military personnel to Greenland, I cannot understand what it means. Really. Rather, the European Union turned out to be completely unprepared for this US president. He is unique. Because such openly imperialist positions, perhaps this is the right term, have never been taken by any American president. Not that the US hasn't done it. Intervene in other countries, change the system inside. But they've never done it so openly.
