Russian MiG-31 jets equipped with hypersonic ballistic missiles flew over the Barents Sea during the Zapad 2025 military exercises, Reuters reported, citing the Russian Interfax news agency.

The planes flew for four hours over neutral waters in the Barents Sea as part of the ongoing military exercises, BTA reported.

The exercises, jointly organized by Russia and Belarus, began yesterday during a tense period in the war in Ukraine after Poland, with the help of NATO allies, shot down suspected Russian drones in its airspace.

In connection with the news of the flight of Russian aircraft equipped with ballistic missiles over the Barents Sea, Reuters recalls that the Russian missiles “Kinzhal“ are supersonic ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads. Russia has already used these weapons in the war in Ukraine.
