Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been released from house arrest to enter hospital for surgery, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
This is his first appearance since Brazil's Supreme Court sentenced him to 27 years in prison on charges of attempted coup d'état.
Bolsonaro arrived at a hospital in the capital, Brasilia, at 11:00 GMT, escorted by armed police. He made no statements to the press or to the dozens of supporters waiting for him there. In the hospital, Bolsonaro will undergo two surgeries related to two skin malformations.
Bolsonaro also suffers from hiccups and vomiting, related to problems with his digestive system, due to the assassination attempt against him during the 2018 election campaign, when he was stabbed.
The court is yet to decide whether Bolsonaro will be sent to serve his sentence in prison or, for health reasons, will serve it at home under house arrest, as before.
