Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the murder of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk a consequence of the polarization of society in the United States, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"It is the job of American law enforcement agencies to find out whether this is an isolated case or a trend, which would be much worse", Peskov said today in an interview with Russian state television, Interfax news agency specified.

"But it is true that at the moment society (in the United States - ed.) is extremely polarized", he noted.

The 31-year-old political activist, who was also a media figure and a friend of US President Donald Trump's family, was shot dead on Wednesday in the US state of Utah while giving an outdoor speech on the campus of the University of Utah. It's raining.

Twenty-two-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested as a suspect in the murder. According to US authorities, it was a political assassination, Reuters notes.
