The West is simulating a threat from the East because of its own catastrophic situation, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, quoted by TASS, BTA reported.

"All this is being done because the situation in Western Europe is catastrophic from an economic point of view, from the point of view of this whole adventure that they have spun around Ukraine. "It is necessary to somehow continue to instill this Russophobia and Belorussianphobia," she told the media.

According to Zakharova, "with such actions simulating some kind of pseudo-aggression from the East, they are trying to intimidate their own population in order to gather even more help for the Kiev regime, in order to get themselves even further into an absolute whirlpool, into a dead end."

Zakharova warned that EU countries are following the worst practices, surrounding themselves with "barbed wire" and constantly introducing bans for their citizens. "Here, they took and closed the border on the other side. "An amazing story, how the European Union is following the path of the worst practices with which they have been scaring us all our lives, that is, the Soviet system," she noted.

In addition, EU countries "all the time prohibit something from themselves, from their own citizens," Zakharova emphasized.
