NATO has scrambled two German “Eurofighter“ fighter jets today after a Russian military plane flew over the Baltic Sea, reports DPA, quoted by BTA.
According to the German Air Force, the plane could not initially be identified and was flying in international airspace without a flight plan or radio contact. Further analysis shows that it was probably a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance plane.
The fighter jets took off from the “Rostock-Laage“ military airfield in northern Germany.
The German Armed Forces are keeping additional aircraft on standby to protect the airspace on the eastern flank of NATO, after a series of violations by the Russian side, notes DPA
