Water disaster in Catalonia! River carries away car, one dead and one missing

Heavy rains cause evacuations and canceled flights at Barcelona airport

One person died and his companion is being searched for after their car was carried away by a river in Catalonia, BNR reported.

Heavy rains cause evacuations and canceled flights at Barcelona airport.

Firefighters found the body of the deceased after a report that the water had carried away a vehicle with two people inside in the municipality of Sant Quinti de Mediona, in the province of Barcelona. The car was found, but the other person reported missing was not inside. 19 teams continue to search the area.

The heavy rains also caused a landslide on the Montserrat mountain. This forced the evacuation of 27 people from a funicular. Firefighters rescued another 30 tourists who had gone on a hike in the natural park.

The bad weather also caused the cancellation of flights to and from Barcelona airport. Hundreds of passengers were stranded in the terminals and were unable to board their planes.

Flight delays of many hours also accumulated.

The heavy rains also complicated traffic on Catalan roads. Kilometer-long traffic jams formed on the AP-7 highway, and other roads were partially closed due to the dangerous weather conditions.
