Hungary: Europe undermines rather than supports peace efforts

Budapest welcomes continued high-level contacts between Russia and the United States, Foreign Minister Szijjártó says

Hungary welcomes continued high-level contacts between Russia and the United States. As long as they continue, there is a chance to avoid a third world war, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told reporters.

„Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that he had met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. I think this is wonderful news. As long as high-level contacts between Russia and the United States continue, we can hope that the worst-case scenario, the outbreak of a third world war, can be avoided,” Szijjártó said after meeting Lavrov at the United Nations.

He added that the behavior of many European leaders suggests that they are more inclined to undermine peace efforts in Ukraine than to support them.

“Europe must make efforts to achieve peace, but for now we can say that the behavior of many European leaders suggests that they are more inclined to undermine peace efforts than to support them,“ Szijjártó said.
