Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned against having any “illusions“ regarding Donald Trump's position on Ukraine, reports „Reuters“, reports News.bg.
He made his statement after the US president changed his rhetoric and expressed confidence that Kiev can regain all the territories occupied by Russia.
Yesterday's words caused relief among some, but also doubts among others that he is ready to leave Europe alone in its support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
„President Trump said that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, can regain all its territory“, Tusk wrote on the social network X.
„Behind this surprising optimism lies a promise of reduced US involvement and the transfer of responsibility for ending the war to Europe. "Better truth than illusions," he stressed.
The nationalist President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, said that Trump's words were "great."
Both leaders support aid for Ukraine, but their differences are clear - Nawrocki prioritizes relations with the White House and believes that the EU should not interfere in defense, while Tusk insists that the European Union should play an active role alongside NATO and the United States.
