The Kosovo Police organized a ceremony today for the destruction of 760 small illegal weapons in a village near the southeastern town of Ferizaj (Ferizovo), the news portal "Telegrafi" reported, quoted by BTA.

The Director General of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, who attended the ceremony, called on the citizens of Kosovo to stay away from weapons and to continue to have confidence in the Kosovo Police.

"We have a police, we have an army, we have (the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo) KFOR. The future of our people is secure, there is no need to keep weapons without a permit," he said.

Hoxha added that since 1999, 36,000 illegal weapons and a large amount of ammunition have been seized.

"Since 2005, (the police) have destroyed 15,000 weapons - small and long-barreled, as well as ammunition. We will continue to work to have as few weapons without permits as possible and (the weapons) not be used by citizens," said the Director General of the Kosovo Police.
