Trump seeks review of his suspended ban on birthright citizenship

It restricted granting citizenship to children of parents who were in the U.S. illegally at the time of the child's birth

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to review the constitutionality of his executive order restricting the right to birthright citizenship, CNN reported.

“The lower courts' decisions have invalidated policies of paramount importance to the president and his administration, undermining the security of our borders,“ the channel cited excerpts from the complaint filed with the Supreme Court.“These decisions, without legal basis, grant the privilege of American citizenship to hundreds of thousands of ineligible individuals,“ the documents state.

Trump signed the executive order restricting the right to birthright citizenship after taking office on January 20. This order was billed as “restoring the meaning and significance of American citizenship“. It prohibits government agencies from granting citizenship to children of parents who were in the United States illegally at the time of the child's birth.
