Extraordinary meeting in Quantico! Is the Pentagon preparing for a major war

American military leaders deployed around the world have begun preparing to travel to Virginia for a meeting with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth next week, which some officials on Friday described as a gathering focused on the "ethos of war", Reuters reports. Hegseth has summoned American generals and admirals from around the world to a meeting in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, which is an exceptional event for the country's military leadership.

While two American officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the event would focus on discussing the need to uphold the "ethos of war" across the military, others said the event would be "a formal gathering of all senior US military leaders, lasting about an hour, and could also affect other areas".

A third official said that given the number of senior officials who will gather in one place, it is likely that significant issues such as the administration's new national defense strategy and the expected reduction of the highest military ranks will be discussed, even if they are not officially included in the agenda.

"I would not be surprised if there are surprises during the event," the officials said.

Officials told the British agency that the event is expected to be held at the Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia. Some of the most senior officials to be provided with U.S. military aircraft for official travel are expected to arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
