Israeli tanks have pushed deeper into Gaza City's residential neighborhoods, Reuters reported.
According to witnesses, Israeli troops continued their incursions into the neighborhoods of "Sabra", "Tel al-Hawa", "Sheikh Radwan" and "Al-Nasser", moving closer to the heart and western areas of Gaza City, where hundreds of thousands of people are sheltering.
Israel launched its long-awaited ground offensive against Gaza City on September 16 after weeks of escalating strikes on the city center, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee.
The Israeli military said that in the past 24 hours, the air force had hit 140 military targets in Gaza, including militants and what it described as military infrastructure.
At least five people were killed in an airstrike in the "Al-Nasser" area, according to Gaza health authorities. and 16 more deaths in house strikes in central Gaza, bringing the death toll to 21.
