Several Russian military units have been surrounded near Dobropolie in Donetsk region during the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky, News.bg reports.

Over the past month, Ukrainian forces have pushed back Russian troops who had advanced 15-20 kilometers towards the strategic Dobropolie-Kramatorsk highway, near the disputed town of Pokrovsk. Since the end of August, Ukraine has liberated several villages in the region, including Zarechnoye, Novoekonomichnoye and Udachnoye.

According to Syrsky, the Ukrainian army has liberated 175 sq. km of territory and cleared an additional 195 sq. km of sabotage groups. The Russians have suffered heavy losses in the Dobropol direction - 3,185 servicemen were put out of action, of whom 1,769 were killed. 969 pieces of weapons and military equipment were destroyed or captured.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of intensified Ukrainian counterattacks, after nearly two years of the front line in the east being mainly in a defensive position.

Nevertheless, Russia continues to maintain a high pace of offensive operations along the entire front line. According to the monitoring group Deep State, Russian forces seized 1,548 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory this summer - more than double the same period in 2024, when 659 square kilometers were occupied.
