Egypt and Qatar, acting as mediators between Israel and Hamas, presented the negotiating delegation of the Palestinian movement with the US plan to end the Gaza conflict.
This was reported by the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera, citing its sources.
According to one of them, the delegation promised the mediators to "responsibly study the proposal."
The Egyptian television channel Al-Qahira al-Ikhbariya also confirmed the transfer of the US document to Hamas representatives.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani informed US President Donald Trump that he was able to convince the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to accept the US plan, Sky News Arabia reported, citing sources in the Washington administration.
The White House previously published a plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza. It calls for a complete cessation of hostilities and the release of Israeli hostages held by Palestinian radicals within 72 hours. In addition, the document proposes placing the Gaza Strip under external administration for a transitional period. Residents of the enclave will be given the opportunity to leave or return.
On September 29, the US president, the Prime Minister of Qatar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in Washington, held telephone conversations. According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman confirmed his readiness to continue working with the US to end the conflict in Gaza, despite the recent Israeli strike on Doha. Netanyahu, in turn, apologized to the Qatari prime minister for the attack on the Hamas leadership compound in the Qatari capital.
The Palestinian movement earlier said that its representatives had not received any new proposals from mediators to resolve the conflict in Gaza and end hostilities. At the same time, the radicals stressed their “readiness to consider any proposals with a responsible and positive approach, provided that the rights of the Palestinian people are respected“.
