Volodymyr Z. - Ukrainian citizen, wanted by Germany for alleged involvement in the blowing up of the "Nord Stream" gas pipelines - was detained in Poland, RMF FM radio reported today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
RMF FM reported that the man was wanted on a European arrest warrant issued by a German court.
A Polish lawyer representing Volodymyr Z. confirmed to Reuters that his client was detained in Poland.
Described by both Moscow and the West as an act of sabotage, the 2022 explosions largely disrupted Russian gas supplies to Europe, leading to a significant escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and curtailing energy supplies to the continent, Reuters notes. No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, and Ukraine has denied any role.
Last month, Italian police arrested a Ukrainian citizen suspected of coordinating the attacks. There is currently no comment from the Polish or German prosecutors.
