The Kremlin said that it hopes that US President Donald Trump's plan for peace in the Gaza Strip will be implemented and will give impetus to the establishment of a peaceful situation in the Middle East, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Donald Trump managed to win the support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a peace proposal in Gaza, backed by the US, but it is still unclear whether Hamas will accept it.

In a telephone conversation with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that "Russia always supports and welcomes any efforts by Trump to end the ongoing tragedy (in Gaza). And of course, we hope that the plan will be implemented to peacefully resolve the events in the Middle East"

Russia has criticized Israel's military operations in Gaza for the past two years, after deepening its relations with its arch-rival Iran. Moscow has long insisted that a two-state solution is the only path to resolving the conflict in the Middle East.
