The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, for the first time since the beginning of the Russian occupation, has been without external power supply for a week, the BBC reported, quoted by News.bg.

„The situation is critical. Due to the Russian shelling, the plant has been disconnected from the power supply and from the power grid. Electricity is provided by diesel generators. This is an emergency situation. The generators and the plant were not designed for such a thing and have never worked in such a mode for so long. We have information that one of the generators has failed. It is the Russians, due to the shelling, who are hindering the repair of the power grid to the plant and the restoration of its safety“, he wrote in “Telegram“.

The Ukrainian head of state added that he had held a meeting with the military and representatives of the Ministry of Energy and instructed them, together with diplomats, to draw the attention of the world community to the situation.

Earlier, Zelensky reported that he had discussed the situation at the nuclear power plant with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“It is important for the world to know what the consequences may be. We are counting on an appropriate reaction“, the president said.
